We’re always blown away by the length our amazing community go to fundraise for Tiny Changes – and few have gone further than Sean from Edinburgh. Part of Good Time Running Club, who supported Tiny Changes a number of times over the past couple of years, Sean marked by his 30th birthday by running the entire width of Scotland, a full 125km!

Starting over on the west coast, at Largs, at 3am in the morning, he successfully completed his incredible challenge some 19 hours later, finishing up close to midnight at Portobello beach, on the east coast of the country.

A truly incredible feat, Sean was joined along the way by friends, family, and well-wishers alike who kept him energised and even joined him for a few miles along the way. Sean has currently raised an incredible £3200 for Tiny Changes! If you’d like to donate to his incredible effort, you can visit his JustGiving page here.

To make the completion of his journey, we had a chat with Sean both before and after the run – check out the Q&A below!

Excited, nervous, ready.

Hi Sean! Can you introduce yourself and your connection to Tiny Changes and Good Time Running?

Hi, my name is Sean and I am a member of Good Time Running Club based in Edinburgh. I joined the club in 2023 and it has become such an important part of my life. The club had previously done a fundraiser for Tiny Changes and it was very successful and it became a charity I followed a lot and what they did was something important to me. So when I decided I was going to do a fundraiser for my 30th birthday it was a no-brainer who I was going to raise money for.

Your fundraising challenge sounds pretty incredible. Can you tell us a bit about it and also why you chose that specific challenge?

I wanted to raise money for my 30th birthday and I wanted it to be a running challenge as that is something I have fallen in love with over the past couple of years. Also being from Scotland and being very proud of that I wanted to do something that was connected to Scotland. So why not choose to run the width of Scotland (125km) and finish in Edinburgh.

How has the training been going this summer?

Summer has been a bit more difficult to keep up the mileage I’ve been doing, and really needed to do, with holidays, the Fringe being on in Edinburgh over August, and just general life. But I kept going and was still able to keep up a decent mileage.

You’re a few days out from the big run now, how are you feeling about it all?

I am feeling great. Excited, nervous, scared. But most importantly ready…

Do you have a plan to push yourself through the hardest parts?

I have a support team planned across the route who will help me with fuelling and running alongside me when they can.

Recovery and reflection.

Hi Sean, how was the big run? Hopefully everything went to plan…

Incredible. It’s the hardest thing I have ever done – but absolutely amazing at the same time. I’m very sore in every single muscle, so now starts the recovery for both my body and processing the whole ordeal mentally.

Did any part of the event take you by surprise?

The support I received across the day was mind blowing. People coming out to Largs at 3am to start the run with me and coming out to Portobello at 10:30pm to see me finish was beyond amazing.

What does the rest of the year hold for you?

Recovery and reflection…

Good Time Running Club is a wonderful organisation based in Portobello & Edinburgh.

They host running clubs and challenges, pop-up events, fundraisers and much more. They also host a Monday 5k every week, that includes a post-run slice of pizza and a chat with the community.

There motto is “All inclusive, all abilities, all good” and they welcome runners of all standards!
