“Music has healing power. It has the ability to take people out of themselves for a few hours”
Elton John
That time of the week has come again – it’s time for us to share our Sunday Sessions playlist! But first, we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has tagged us in their “Together” creations for Scott’s digital memorial wall. We have been truly overwhelmed by your heartfelt creations. From embroidered cross stitch pieces to hand-drawn illustrations, we have received an abundance of lovingly made submissions, and have been blown away by your talents. As you may know, Scott was also a talented artist who loved to seek comfort in the quiet of drawing and making, we hope your creations helped you find this peace too.
In addition to art, music has been playing a huge part in adding a little light to our days – as it always does. This is something that we hope our Sunday Sessions playlist will do for you too, whether you’re listening along whilst working, walking the dog or pausing for a mindful moment to take it all in.
This week, we had a chat with some of our favourite musicians and music industry friends about the tracks that have been seeing them through their lockdown days. Why not have read and listen along to our latest Sunday Sessions playlist.
Seven Days Is Too Long – Chuck Wood
“This is quite possibly my favourite ever Northern Soul tune. I heard it for the first time when I was 16 during the Summer of 2001. I’d stolen a compilation CD from my brother and this stood out by a million miles. Right now is an opportunity to blast some music in the kitchen and cook and enjoy tasting good food (maybe with some good wine too!). This song makes me think of sunshine. It’s absolutely relentless from the second it bursts open, right through to the end.”
Carla J Easton
Four Tet – Two Thousand and Seventeen
“Perhaps not quite in the ‘feel-good’ or upbeat category of songs, but I’ve been listening to this album almost daily. This song, and most of the album, is really meditative and immersive while remaining fairly light and melodic. The sounds are really soothing and it calms me down a great deal listening to it.”
Calum - The Ninth Wave
Flowers to my Demons by Nnamdi
“This record just came out and the whole album is a treasure trove of musical variety, a truly rewarding listen. So imaginative and fluent it’s a joy.”
Katie Harkin
The American Analog Set – The Kindness Of Strangers
“I have been listening to this album a lot during the lockdown and this is perhaps my favourite from it which I guess is kinda perfect as there are instances of strangers being kind to each other all around us at the moment. From people volunteering their time helping to deliver food, checking in on people who are alone or the show of solidarity with our key workers. It’s a lovely, calming song that when I have it on, I can just close my eyes and forget about all the madness surrounding me.”
Darren - We Were Promised Jetpacks
White Reaper – Might Be Right
“White Reaper is just always guaranteed to be a good time, and I can’t help but smile at the true rock/pop hits they have going.”
Lauren Denitzio - Worriers
