I have always been a FR fan from the beginning and never missed a FR gig. I made so many life long friends just going to the gigs and now those friends are like my family and the memories made at those gigs will stay with me forever. With Scott’s passing it was clear that fans all over this planet were struggling to cope and I wanted to do something to raise money for mental health in his name.
I had previously worked with Scott to make the big silver cross for the State Hospital ep. Scott had sent me the design brief and I felt so excited to be able to make a piece of jewellery for my favourite band in the world, with my name on the art work credits and everything! In true Scott style he sent me the cross back to keep along with the wooden spoon from the art work, he said “it was better with me than gathering dust in a drawer”. I was always blown away by his thoughtfulness . They are still my two favourite “things”.
I felt making the crosses would be a way I could contribute to the charity and to show how much Scott and FR mean to me. When the crosses went on sale 9th June 2018 I was actually out for my Mum’s birthday and I happened to check how the sale was going and when I looked,I was blown away; 600 odd crosses were sold in a matter of hours. The following sale saw around 500 crosses sell out in minutes and this pattern has continued ever since. I spent one of the hottest summers recorded in Scotland in my wee workshop at home making the 1st batches of crosses during any spare time I had while working as Nurse. It has been a labour of love for me and it brought me comfort knowing I was helping to contribute my own tiny change towards such a great cause.
I guess I didn’t expect to still be making them 18 months on but I am not surprised by how well loved and respected Scott is. I have received many messages from FR fans telling me their cross pendant had became a symbol for may FR fans to recognise each other in a room of strangers and come together to talk about their love for Scott and also openly about mental health.
I will continue to make the Frabbit crosses for as long as people want to buy them and hopefully I can add to the £30,000 I have already raised. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has purchased a cross from Eala Jewellery and helped me to help others in Scott Hutchison name.
